After completing a 12-day-long journey, the participants reached near the Kolkata Press Club today. Upon arrival, they held a rally and staged a peaceful protest.
The protesters stated that the Lepcha language is an ancient and rich cultural heritage of the state, and including it in the school curriculum is essential for its preservation. They alleged that due to government neglect, the language is gradually moving towards extinction.
The Save Language Committee appealed to the state government to take a positive decision on this demand at the earliest, so that future generations can stay connected to their mother tongue and cultural heritage.
