Save Lepcha Language Campaign embarks on Kalimpong-to-Kolkata march demanding inclusion in WB school curriculum
Demanding inclusion of Lepcha language in school curriculum of West Bengal, members of "Save Lepcha Language Campaign" has embarked on a foot march from Kalimpong to Kolkata on Tuesday (December 9, 2025).
Scheduled to reach Kolkata on December 19, the members will mostly march on foot demanding the inclusion and will reportedly submit memorandums to the concerned departments and authorities.
Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front (IGJF) Chief Ajoy Edwards and TMC's Shanta Chettri are among the prominent leaders who have pledged their support to the campaign.
"It is painful to see that even after seventy eight years of Independence the Lepcha language has still not been introduced in the State School Curriculum. This is not a small delay. This is a denial of cultural justice to one of the most ancient Indigenous communities of our land", shared Edwards pledging "complete support" to the campaign.
