West Bengal is gearing up to host the World Ijtema — one of the largest Muslim religious congregations in the world — from January 2 to January 5 in Puinan-Pandua, Hooghly district, marking its return to the state after 34 years.
Officials estimate that up to 1.8–2 million devotees from across India and abroad may attend the four-day event.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired a high-level meeting to review preparation and inter-department coordination, stressing peaceful conduct, hospitality, and safety for all participants.
