Barrackpore Police Commissionerate gets big success in cyber fraud case, 8 Cyber criminals arrested, phones and laptops recovered
On 10.09.2025, Cyber PS of Barrackpore Police Commisionerate received an information regarding few unknown youths involved in suspicious activities near Wireless More. A special operation was conducted and eight persons were detained from two different locations along with incriminating materials, including 31 smartphones, 08 laptops and 20 debit cards.
Preliminary enquiry revealed that they allegedly sourced various malicious .apk files as well as lists of mobile numbers of potential victims periodically. These files were then sent to hundreds of unsuspecting victims through bulk messengers. Once the .apk file is downloaded by the victims unknowingly, the accused gains access and control of the device. Then a larger gang is involved in extracting financial and personal data of the victims causing huge losses and data theft. This arrested gang gained monetary benefits for every .apk download by the victims.
A specific case has been registered and investigation is proceeding.
