Like every year, this year too Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday was celebrated at Noapara police station. Noapara Thana, Netaji was arrested here and held for few hours in 1931. Noapara Police station, Shyamnagar on the east bank of Ganges, for a change becomes the centre of attraction on Jan 23rd every year just because of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. On 11th October, 1931AD, at 5 in the afternoon, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was arrested by the British police from a street crossing close to Chowringhee Kali bari in Shyamnagar. He was on his way to Jagaddal 'Golghar' to attend a conference on the labour issues of Bengal jute mills. After his arrest he was jailed for a couple of hours in this room (picture given) inside the Noapara PS. Trinavo Sur who lives in Shyamnagar adds, Netaji refused food from the likes of the Britishers and remained starved.
